Montefiore space

The Montefiore Collection, an overview of the 19^th and 20^th centuries electrical science

This collection brings together the objects and scientific instruments collected by Georges Montefiore-Levi, who was the founder and patron of the former Montefiore Institute (one of the oldest engineering schools in Belgium!).

This collection was started at the founding of the Institute in 1883 and kept growing throughout its history. Eager to provide his students with quality support for their practical training, Georges Montefiore-Levi used his personal fortune to build new laboratories, workshops and classrooms, and to constantly renew the equipment in order to remain at the cutting edge of technology. The Montefiore collection, with its various items, provides an overview of the 19^th and 20^th centuries electrical sciences (generators, dynamos, telecommunication devices, batteries, arc lamps, etc.).

Within the Maison de la Science, a space is entirely dedicated to the exhibition and presentation of the pieces of the Montefiore collection. In addition, various pieces are regularly presented to the general public during exhibitions or temporary events.
